The Learning Focus
The Academy focuses on the learning needs and competencies required in the geospatial industry. Programs are woven around the triple aspects of knowledge, skills and abilities that are expected of a competent professional, with a global outlook.
Learning outcomes from each of the programs specify measurable or demonstrable knowledge and skills that are required to be displayed by the participants, consistently adhering to industry standards of acceptance.
Feedback from participants is obtained during, and on completion of, programs and thereafter, from project managers/ leaders, to whom the participants report during their job. Periodic feedback reports provide indications on the efficacy of programs and identify areas for improvement..
It is expected that the performance of participants' on-their-job will reflect in the quality of deliverables, growth in market share, and revenues earned by their companies.
The four-stage transformative learning process at the Academy is shown in Illustration 1.

Geospatial Competencies
The major competencies required by the geospatial industry are shown in the first inner circle of Illustration 2. The manifestation of acquired competencies as a consequence of a well-designed and professionally delivered learning program, is reflected in the work-related attributes that can be monitored during on-the-job performance.

The Academy's Approach to Learning Design and Delivery
The programs offered by the Academy are constructed around pedagogical principles of active and experiential learning. The learning content and delivery methods are aligned with learning goals and deliverables. The Academy has a strong penchant towards processes and standards which as a composite is called the "The Academy-Way of life." Together, they form 'The IIC Pedagogy' which is delivered through a blended learning approach that encompasses: needs analysis, instructional design, content development, and evaluation strategies, as shown in Illustration 3.
